Anise Biscuits (3)

Cook Time 30 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 3 1/2 cup flour 1 pound or 3 1/2 cups
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 3 tbsp anise seed optional
  • 1/2 lb butter or Crisco 1 stick
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp anise extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk use a little less

Method
 

  1. 1. Mix together flour, cream of tartar, bicarbonate of soda, and anise seed (optional) and set aside.
  2. 2. Place butter in large bowl and beat until smooth with sugar.
  3. 3. Add eggs and extract. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
  4. 4. Divide into 3 or 4 equal parts. Make them 1/2 inch low and long and narrow.
  5. 5. Bake middle shelf 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
  6. 6. Slice after cooling for a minute or so, place slices side down on cookie sheet and brown for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Notes

You can brown them without turning them over. Handwritten annotations suggest using 3 1/2 cups flour and a little less than 1/2 cup milk.
